Pre cruise warm up

Hello to all!

You may know I'm leaving next week on nearly 3 weeks of European travel. At the heart of the trip is a Baltic Sea cruise focussed around (what else?) knitting. At the suggestion of my friend Shannon I'm starting this blog to keep a record of the experience, and let anyone who'd like to follow along on the adventure.

A warning: I'm a very bad diarist. I have never been able to keep a journal, and had a previous failed attempt at blogging. I'm hoping since this one is so focussed, and will involve a bunch of photos I would be taking anyway, I may have more success. If I haven't posted in a while, feel free to harrass via email, it may have a motivating effect.

So: I start pretrip arrangements tomorrow, and will be starting the shopping and packing process. First on the list: a comprehensive guidebook to Scandinavia. I'll be going to Powell's (poor me!) Second is some sort of decision about what knitting to bring. I'll be involved in a massive stash-toss, trying to find the right combo of yarn and project to take me through hours and days and weeks of travel by plane, train, bus and boat. And lastly, I have to figure out some parameters for deciding what clothing to pack for such a long trip. I don't want to have to hire porters to get on and off trains and boats, but I don't want to be stuck with the same t-shirt 3 days a week either.

For these and other riveting decisions: stay tuned!
